THE cancellation of the planned mega New Year celebration in Putrajaya by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is timely and an appropriate move, as fellow Malaysians would agree that we don’t need such celebrations when thousands of Malaysians are undergoing agony, stress and trauma as they are driven out of the homes due to worsening floods and placed at various evacuation centres in Peninsular Malaysia as well as Sabah.
This figure is expected to rise further due to continuous monsoon rain. The water level in a few dams have been reported to be slightly higher than the danger level and several major rivers in the east coast are also reported to have exceeded the danger point.
