OPEN spaces and greenery are fast disappearing from the city landscape. In their place we see concrete jungles. An endless array of skyscrapers, commercial complexes, shopping malls, condominiums and elevated highways have sprung up like mushrooms.
The country’s unprecedented development has attracted tens of thousands of workers to the cities. City planners appear to give less importance to the recreational needs of urban dwellers. Existing green belts are inadequate for the growing population and are diminishing at an alarming rate.
