DESPITE a grand display of fireworks and colourful grand opening of the 20th Glasglow Commonwealth Games, what captured world attention at Celtic Park was the observation of one minute of silence as a mark of respect and dignity for the 298 victims who perished in last week’s Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash in Eastern Ukraine.
Over the last two days, the Netherlands government, its people and dignitaries mourned the arrival of a total of 114 bodies, which were given military honours and respect by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and his people in mourning, especially as they lost 193 of their citizens.
