Being Malaysians under all circumstances

I REFER to the letter “Why does it have to be us?” (The Star, July 19) where the writer emphasised the Malaysianness of all of us.

I have always asked myself why only in times of tragedy and disaster we chose to be Malaysians but on other days we are classified by our ethnic divisions. How many more calamities must we suffer before we are fully awake from our self-induced slumbers!
