BRAZZAVILLE (Reuters) - The President of Congo Republic, Denis Sassou Nguesso, said on Friday he had authorised a public debate on changing the constitution that would allow him to stand next year for a third term, and he expected a referendum would be held soon.
The ruling coalition is seeking a change that would lift restrictions that prevent a third term for Sassou Nguesso, who has ruled the oil producing central African nation for most of the last 35 years.
