SANAA (Reuters) - Armed Shi'ite rebels shelled Yemen's state-run television building on Friday as they advanced into Sanaa, sending hundreds fleeing their homes in a dramatic escalation of violence after weeks of fighting and protests, officials and residents said.
The fighting was the worst in years in the capital of the poor Arabian peninsula country and appeared to be the biggest challenge yet to a U.N.-backed transition to democracy launched after veteran ruler Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down in 2012.
