Calls have poured in from the West for all South-East Asian nations to be compassionate and accommodating towards Rohingya migrants. At the same time, Italy has been turning away vessels of people fleeing unrest in their homelands.
“COCKROACHES” and “a plague of feral humans” were the terms used to describe boatpeople earlier this month by Katie Hopkins, a British TV personality. She proposed that nations “bring on gunships, force migrants back to their shores and burn the boats”.
