Police officers examining the wrecked private bus at the aftermath of the Little India riot in the early hours on 9 December 2013. A mob of about 400 people turned violent and attacked emergency vehicles responding to a fatal accident between a private bus and a person at the junction of Race Course Road and Hampshire Road on 8 December 2013. At least four police patrol cars were overturned by the mob, and an ambulance and two patrol cars were also set on fire. The riot left the street strewn with debris, including uprooted plants and broken glass. Investigations are ongoing.
TIMEKEEPER Wong Geck Woon said that there have been instances in the past when Indian workers who are drunk have urinated and vomited inside buses ferrying them back to their dormitories from Little India.
Taking the stand for the first time yesterday since the Committee of Inquiry (COI) into last year’s Little India riot began the day before, the 38-year-old told the court that as a result, bus drivers decided among themselves about two years ago not to ferry drunk workers.
