JAKARTA: Parents of students at a school in Aceh were shocked when they found out that their children, who had just entered a lower secondary school in Sabang, Aceh, were asked to answer questions related to measurement of their sex organs and breasts on a health data form.
The mother of a student said she was shocked when shown the form by her child who did not really know how to answer the questions.
She said the six-page form was labelled secret and had Community Health Centre (Puskesmas) typed in the top left hand corner.
On one page of the form there were sample pictures of breast, woman's vagina and man's penis, each with four numbers for the smallest to the biggest measurements, and students were asked to circle their size using the numbers accordingly.
"It is so unethical to the extent of asking the measurement of a private part, what is it for," asked a mother.
A media check found in the fourth part of the form were questions on reproductive health data whereby female students were asked about menstruations and white discharges accompanied by pictures of breast and vagina measurements.
Male students were quizzed if they had wet dreams and if they had experienced itchiness around their private parts.
Sabang, Aceh Education Department head Misman confirmed the questionnaire was distributed to students of lower secondary schools in the district upon the advise of the Health Department.
"The questionnaire was prepared at the suggestion of the Community Health Centre and aimed at obtaining information of the students' health record," he said.
The same questionnaire was also distributed last year but did not get any protest from any quarters because it did not have images of sex organs, he said. - Bernama
