KLANG: Kirthana Logarajah may only be 12 but she clearly understands the role she has to play to provide her single parent mother a good life in future.
"I have to do well in my studies and be in a good profession to give my mother all the things she does not have now," said Kirthana who scored 7 As for the UPSR examination.
Kirthana, who attended the SJK (T) Simpang Lima here, dreams of becoming a scientist and make new discoveries for mankind.
"Besides doing what I enjoy, I want to make enough money to buy my mother a nice house and a good car," said Kirthana whose favourite subjects are Mathematics and Science.
Kirthana said she managed to do well in the UPSR with the help of her school teachers and her former kindergarten teacher.
"My school teachers gave free tuition classes during weekends and my kindergarten teacher gave me tuition classes three days a week for which my mother paid," said Kirthana.
Kirthana also attended tuition in the afternoon in her school from Mondays to Thursdays for which her mother paid RM45 a month.
Her mother, Agila Arumugam, 39, a sales coordinator with a shipping firm, found herself having to care for Kirthana and her two brothers Kieran, 14, and Sindu, 6, after her divorce about five years ago.
"It has been very difficult but I strive on as my ultimate dream is for all my children to do well in life," said Agila.
Kirthana and Kieran have to take turns attending tuition classes due to the family's tight finances.
"Kirthana attended tuition this year whilst Kieran stopped his classes.
"Kieran will start attending tuition classes next year as he has to sit for the PT3 and Kirthana will not be having any tuition," said Agila who stays in a rented house with her children in Bandar Bukit Tinggi here.
