Health Ministry recalls paracetamol syrup

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has ordered Royce Pharma Sdn Bhd to recall its paracetamol syrup as they contained alcohol.

Health Ministry Pharmaceutical Services senior director Datuk Eisah Rahman said the company had breached a regulation as it did not declare the alcohol content of the product.

“Earlier we granted offer to Royce Pharma Sdn Bhd to supply the product to several government hospital facilities, as there was no mention of alcohol content in either the label or the package leaflet,” Eisah said in a statement following an alert on the media social calling on parents to return the mixture at government hospitals.

Eisah assured the public that there was no safety issue as the product complied with quality, safety and efficacy standard and contained alcohol within permissible limit.

However, she said, action had to be taken as the company failed to declare the alcohol content in its product.

“We advise consumers to check the list of contents on the labels as well as the product leaflet to check the desired suitability,” Eisah said.

Consumers can check with the ministry’s pharmaceutical services division to get further information on medicines at 1 800 886 722 or email npcc@moh.gov.my.
