Semporna coastal settlement razed after power blackout

Bleak situation: More than 100 houses were destroyed by the fire at Kg Simunul in Semporna.

KOTA KINABALU: More than 1,000 people were left homeless in a fire which destroyed 103 houses in Kg Simunul, Semporna’s most noto­rious sea settlement village.

Firemen took over eight hours to put out the fire which is believed to have started at one of the wooden stilt houses during a power blackout at about 7.30pm on Saturday.
