PUTRAJAYA: A state legislative assembly can impose limitations on freedom of speech in order to protect the sanctity of Islam, rules the Federal Court.
In coming to its unanimous decision in the case of ZI Publications Sdn Bhd against the Selangor legislative assembly, the panel found a law that criminalised the spread of books deemed un-Islamic to be constitutional.
