KUALA LUMPUR: A small fire broke out after a plastic bottle tied to firecrackers was thrown at tents set up for the National Day celebrations near Federal House next to Dataran Merdeka.

Dang Wangi CID chief Deputy Supt M. Gunalan said the bottle, filled with unknown liquid, was thrown into one of the tents at about 6pm causing the fire which damaged the canvas wall.

"No one saw who did it and there was no recording of the incident. The fire was easily put out and no one was injured.

"Don't call it a molotov cocktail. The liquid could have been kerosene," he said.

DSP Gunalan declined to comment if the fire was related to the Bersih 4 rally.

"The rally has been peaceful and we are very happy with the participants. There is no issue," he said.

KL Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Azizan Ismail confirmed the incident.
