Rahman Dahlan to Bersih 4: Postpone rally for sake of Malaysians

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic) has slammed Bersih 4.0 for timing the rally at the “height of the global economic meltdown”.

“How smart! Tq for making it even worse for everyone,” tweeted the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government minister via his @mpkotabelud handle on Wednesday morning.

He added that the Government will “still be standing” after the Bersih 4 rally but cautioned that if the demonstration caused a further slide of the ringgit, more Malaysians won’t be.

“We are facing global economic crisis and clearly #Bersih4 organisers don't care about the best interest of us Malaysians,” said Abdul Rahman, who is Barisan Nasional strategic communications director.

He went on to say that with Malaysians losing “billions and jobs”, the rally’s timing was bad and called on the organisers to be responsible and postpone the gathering so as not to stoke the economic fire even more.

"The immediate victim of #Bersih4 massive demo will be the economy. Then you as ordinary Malaysians. Then the politicians. In that order!

“#Bersih4 should be wise. This is the time for calm and composure in light of the global economic meltdown. Even just for a few weeks,” he concluded.

The Bersih 4 rally, planned for this weekend, has been declared illegal by the police as the organisers failed to issue a complete notice to the police.

Bersih 2.0 chief Maria Chin Abdullah insists that the Aug 29 and 30 rally will proceed as planned.   Bar Council’s human rights committee has said there was no such thing as an illegal rally any more.
