Najib congratulating Ahmad Zahid on his appointment at Perdana Putra

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi received the letter of appointment as the deputy prime minister from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Perdana Putra on Monday.

Ahmad Zahid, also the home minister, replaced Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the Cabinet reshuffle on July 28.

Shortly after receiving the appointment letter, Ahmad Zahid, accompanied by chief secretary to the government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, proceeded to the deputy prime minister's office.

He punched the attendance card at his new office at 8.30am.

Ahmad Zahid, who looked cheerful, later joined prayers led by Ustaz Azhar Tuarno, the religious officer in the Prime Minister's Department.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid participated in the monthly assembly of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) for the first time as the deputy prime minister.

The assembly was also joined by minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and deputy minister in the JPM Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki who were also recently appointed to their respective post. - Bernama
