Terengganu royalty quits PAS

KUALA TERENGGANU: Tengku Ibrahim Ismail, who joined PAS in 2012, has quit, saying the Islamist party "has lost its direction."

Tengku Ibrahim, who was an ordinary member and uncle of the Sultan of Terengganu, said his decision to quit the party was due to the infighting in the party and with its allies, PKR and DAP.

"The ideology of the political parties in Malaysia, especially PAS, has strayed. At a time when Umno and other political parties are not doing well, PAS has failed to capitalise on the situation.

"In fact it got stuck in the turmoil and infighting between its own allies. It had failed to seize the opportunity to strengthen the party," he told reporters at his residence in Batu Buruk.

Tengku Ibrahim said PAS showed immaturity when it said it could stand alone without the support of their allies.

"I believe the top leadership in PAS has lost its direction and the determination to strengthen the party with the latest infighting between the ulama and professionals," he said.

Tengku Ibrahim said he would wait for the outcome of the political climate before deciding on his next action.
