KUCHING: The Kedah teacher accused of hurting a pupil in rural Baram for not finishing his homework had last year pushed his pupils to a 100% passing rate for Mathematics.

The teacher has been confined to a desk job at the Baram district Education Department following last weekend's police report, in which a student he allegedly hit was hospitalised.

Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the Education Ministry had launched its own investigation after the police report.

"The standard operation procedure is we have to move the teacher away from the school pending the investigation and we have done that," Fatimah said.

"The next course of action would depend on the police investigation outcome. He could be suspended, (or) demoted depending on the findings.
