KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government should not drag its feet in resolving the uncertainty surrounding its status as a coalition government, said Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
The former Selangor Mentri Besar said the Sultan of Selangor may seek for explanation if the matter remains in limbo.
“I am sure the Palace wants a clear answer from the state government on who is actually leading the state,” he told reporters at his residence during a Hari Raya open house here, Saturday.
The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government’s status came under question after DAP leaders said that Pakatan had ceased to exist following the party’s squabble with PAS over the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
The situation worsened after PAS’ ulama wing passed a resolution in its recent general assembly to sever ties, a decision which was later upheld by the party.
Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali has yet to make a stand on the state government’s status, after a previous meeting that was held between the state leaders failed to reach any consensus.
The subsequent formation of Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) by axed PAS progressive leaders has also influenced the formation of the Selangor administration.
Two suspended PAS assemblymen have confirmed they would be joining GHB, a movement that would be turned into a political party in September.
They are Morib state assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin and Hulu Kelang’s Saari Sungib.
Their move would reduce the number of state seats currently held by PAS in Selangor to 13 from 15, leaving DAP with the most number of state seats (15), with PKR in a tie with PAS.
Azmin had however refused to weigh in with his opinions on GHB, considering the matter to be PAS’ “internal affair”.
Asked about GHB, Khalid said this was an internal crisis shared between PAS, PKR and DAP.
"I will not comment much on this because this is their own internal problem...as I have become an independent assemblyman.
"Besides, GHB doesn't seem to have a clear objective on its leadership and acceptability from the people," he said.
