PETALING JAYA: A second Malaysian has been hospitalised following Saturday's explosion at the Color Play Asia celebrations at the Formosa Water Park in Taiwan's New Taipei City, said the Foreign Ministry.
"Wah Liang Jie, a student at Vanung University, suffered burns on his face, arms and legs. He was admitted to Xizhi Cathay Hospital, New Taipei City for further treatment," it said in a statement on Tuesday.
It added that the other Malaysian, Lim Sh Li, is currently in a stable condition and has been transferred from Ren Ai Hospital to Taiwan Medical University (TMU) for further treatment.
It said the ministry, through the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei, is now in touch with the local authorities to inquire if more Malaysians are involved in the incident.
"At present, there are about 16,000 Malaysians residing in Taiwan, whereby a majority are students," it said.
More than 500 people were injured in the incident, with about 200 seriously.
Horrifying amateur video footage showed young revellers dancing in front of a stage and cheering as clouds of green and yellow powder covered them at the “colour party” late Saturday.
But their joy turned to terror when the powder suddenly erupted into flames, engulfing them in an inferno as they ran screaming for their lives.
Some were dressed only in swimwear and images from the scene showed many with severe burns being tended by those who escaped.
