KUALA LUMPUR: Excessive politicking is not proper and should be avoided, said Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (pic).
He said any dispute and split would only be to the detriment of the people and country.
"As the old Malay proverb says "both the winner and loser gain nothing from a conflict (kalah jadi abu, menang jadi arang)."
"In fact, the other people will be the ones who will gain. Thus, I call on everyone to be wary and careful," the King said at the investiture in conjunction with his official birthday anniversary celebration at the Istana Negara, here Saturday.
Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, other dignitaries and foreign envoys.
Thirty-one individuals received their federal awards and medals today out of the total of 1,773 people who were conferred national honours.
Tuanku Abdul Halim said no one should be easily complacent and forget history on how the nation was built, the previous struggles and the fundamental decisions that had been agreed upon.
He hoped that every one would give space and opportunity to the prime minister and the government to resolve whatever problems there were.
The King expressed his happiness that the government had the vision and clear management framework towards achieving the development objectives through the National Transformation Policy (DTN).
Through the Annual Report of the Government Transformation Plan and Economic Transformation Program, the King said Malaysia was now on a strong footing to achieve the target of becoming a high-income nation by the year 2020.
"I have been informed that the overall Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the National Key Result Areas or NKRA had reached 105 per cent.
"Meanwhile, the overall KPI for the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) reached 110 per cent," said the King.
Tuanku Abdul Halim also expressed confidence that Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean this year would bring major socio economic benefits to the country for the long term.
Touching on the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) recently, which targeted various efforts for the next five years beginning 2016, he hoped the government would seriously endeavour to achieve its objectives. - Bernama
