PETALING JAYA: A 2012 video of Terengganu-based ustaz Azhar Idrus denouncing Mother’s Day as a festival that should not be celebrated by Muslims has resurfaced on social media.

“Mother’s Day is linked to the Mother of the Church, or the highest power in the church, the Virgin Mary, who is celebrated during the second week of April every year. The movement began in the early 19th Century, applying with the church and the government to declare this day a public holiday,” said Azhar.
