KUALA LUMPUR: Tourists now have the chance to choose among 74 interesting cycling tour packages to explore Malaysia's natural environment.

The launch of Tourism Malaysia's Discover Malaysia by Bicycle Guidebook offers guidelines to local and foreign tourists via cycling packages such as touring Kuching City via the Classic City Ride and the National Park Cycling and Kota Baharu Cycling Tours.

Tourism and Culture Ministry's deputy secretary-general (Tourism) Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah said the handbook is available at tourist information centres of Tourism Malaysia (TIC), Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTIC) and Tourism Malaysia offices nationwide for free.

The book can also be uploaded in the form of E-Book by scanning the 'QR Code' printed on the front page of the book or on the website of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

"I believe this book can boost cycling tours, thus making Malaysia a tourist destination for cycling enthusiasts," he told reporters after launching the book, here Sunday.

Rashidi said cycling tours were gaining popularity among locals and foreign tourists.

Last year, a total of 4,072 cycling tour packages worth RM725,612.07 were sold nationwide.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, who was present at the ceremony, said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was in the midst of creating a Kuala Lumpur cycling master plan, with the facilities provided.

He said with the 'KL Car Free Morning' programme launched last year, the cycling trend is gaining momentum in the city. - Bernama
