PETALING JAYA: Veteran entertainment reporter and lyricist Abdul Jalil Saleh was laid to rest at the Selayang Baru Muslim cemetery.
Celebrities and journalists joined his family to bid a final farewell on Saturday morning.
Abdul Jalil, or Juwie, 62, passed away on Friday at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre of complications from various illnesses including prostate cancer.
He underwent surgery on Thursday but his conditioned worsened after his kidneys failed.
Among the artistes present were Erra Fazira, Datin Umie Aida, Ziela Jalil, Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim and Datuk Ahmad Nawab.
Juwie had penned songs for singers like Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Ramlah Ram, Siti Fairuz, Nassier Wahab, Shidee, as well as groups like Gersang, Spring and May.
His hits included Cintaku Hanyut Di Lautan Sepi (Ramlah Ram), Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu (Alleycats) and Masih Aku Terasa (Gersang).
He started his career as a Berita Harian reporter in 1974 before joining Utusan Malaysia in 1984. He joined Mingguan Malaysia in the 1990s.
He later became the editor of Mangga magazine in 1995, a post he held until July 8, 2008 when he retired.
