Esscom keeping close watch on Sabah's sea gypsies


KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian security forces are keeping a close watch on the nomadic Pala’u or Sea Bajau community who largely live in boats plying across Malaysian, southern Philippines and Indonesian waters in the Sulu and Celebes seas.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) chief Datuk Rashid Harun said their intelligence showed that some of those in the Pala’u community (also known as sea gypsies) were using their using nomadic lifestyle to aid groups threatening Malaysian security.
