GEORGE TOWN: The Thaipusam festival commenced Monday with the silver chariot beginning its journey to the Balathandayuthapani Hilltop Temple in Waterfall Road.
Almost a thousand people, some waiting as early as 5am, converged at Penang Street in front of the “Kovil Veedu”, the site where the chariot is kept, to witness the statue of Lord Murugan being lifted onto the chariot.
