MIRI: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants faster disbursement of cash and other aid to flood victims, especially the poor who had no steady income, in Sabah and Sarawak.
He pointed out that poor people like farmers, fishermen and animal rearers depended entirely on their crops and farms for daily survival.
"Once these assets are destroyed by the floods, they have no means for daily sustenance," he told reporters after after visiting flood hit areas in Limbang and Lawas.
"As long as the flood victims are registered with the relevant state and federal agencies responsible for providing aid, they are entitled to the goverment aid," he added.
Muhyiddin said Putrajaya would provide the same assistance to flood victims in Sarawak and Sabah as those given to peninsular Malaysia.
He also appealed for more volunteerism from private sectors and individuals to help flood victims rebuild their lives.
The flood situation in Sarawak improved on Friday especially in the south, where the last relief centre in Kuching closed at 11am.
