MIRI: The new school year started on a tragic note in Ulu Baram in northern Sarawak when a longboat filled with children and adults collided with a timber barge, leaving two people dead, one missing and another critically injured.
At press time, a housewife and a Year Six schoolgirl have been confirmed killed in the tragedy, which happened near the Long Panai settlement in the upper reaches of the Baram River, some seven hours by timber road from the nearest urban centre of Marudi town.
