SPAD throws spanner in the works of Uber-Volkswagen's charity drive

KUALA LUMPUR: Plans for a charity drive involving local celebrities chauffeuring people around for a fee screeched to a grinding halt after the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) declared it was against the law.

In a statement, SPAD said any vehicle used as a taxi, which collects fares from the public had to be in accordance with the Land Public Transport Act and driver of a vehicle-for-hire must possess a Public Service License (PSV) - even if it was done for charity.
