KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth unanimously passed a resolution urging the Education Ministry to include elements of the three major races in primary school history text books.
It said with the major races included in the books for Year Four, Five and Six, pupils would know the true Malaysian scenario.
The resolution was among 12 passed by the 813 delegates at the 50th MCA Youth annual general assembly on Saturday.
The others are:
1. To give full support to party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and his deputy Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong in leading the MCA and remain committed in encouraging six large scopes i.e. politics, economy, culture, education, youth affairs and women issues as stated under the party's transformation plan.
2. All MCA Youth division chiefs will become MCA central delegates in line with party's transformation plan and it is hoped that all MCA central delegates will support this resolution.
3. To defend the secular system under the Federal Constitution and oppose anyone who wants to implement hudud law in the country.
4. To fully support the drafting of the National Harmony Act to replace the Sedition Act 1948 to ensure the society and country's stability against extremists.
5. The Government needs to increase the participation of women in government bodies and in all fields in general.
6. MCA Youth fully supports the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to be given more powers in fighting corruption effectively.
7. To oppose the continued implementation of the quota system and stress the need to use Key Performance Indicators in each field to ensure every race has a fair opportunity to prove their abilities in increasing the country's competitiveness.
8. In the Federal Government's efforts to implement measures to curb property speculation, it should also build more PR1MA houses and affordable homes and be provided fairly to youths.
9. The country should use its international experience to encourage the development of the agriculture and tourism industries by extending assistance to youths to develop the local market and come up with successful local products.
10. To strongly oppose any statements pertaining to the closure or abolition of Chinese primary schools and to stress that these schools are not a hindrance to national unity but instead are important assets to the people as vernacular education is an advantage to Malaysia in the international arena.
11. The Government should view seriously the increase in crime rate and increase the manpower of the police and strengthen crime prevention measures by increasing the frequency of patrols and installing more CCTV cameras.
