PETALING JAYA: PKR's central committee expressed its disappointment that the Selangor Palace had disregarded the nomination of party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post of Mentri Besar.
In a statement on Monday, the committee said it was disappointing that Dr Wan Azizah was not even invited to meet the Sultan despite having the support of the majority of the state assembly.
"We feel that this action by the Sultan is not in accordance to the State Constitution and goes against the principles of democracy, in addition to affecting the constitutional monarchy.
"However, our priority at the moment is to solve this crisis for the betterment of the people and hence, will abide by the decree to elect deputy president Azmin Ail as the Mentri Besar," said the statement.
It said it will respect the decision of Dr Wan Azizah to pull out as a candidate and will obey her request to back Azmin for the post.
Selangor PAS said it accepted the Sultan's decision and pledged to work with Azmin.
“All the members in Selangor PAS are ready to work with Azmin to continue improving the welfare of the rakyat.
“We pray that he will be able to carry out his tasks well.
“We hope that with this appointment, the political crisis that has disrupted the state’s administration, will come to an end," its secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman said.
