Khalid speaking to the state government staff at the farewell party

SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim wants to continue serving the people as Bandar Tun Razak MP even though he has stepped down from the mentri besar's post.

However, his post as Port Klang assemblyman would be decided after the State Legislative Assembly sitting in November.

"I will not step down as MP but I will wait for the Assembly sitting before making a decision on whether or not I will resign as assemblyman," he told reporters after attending a farewell party hosted in his honour.

In his speech, Khalid called on the incoming mentri besar to fulfil the promises made to the people in the 13th general election manifesto.

He said this should include the distribution of water rights to the people after the restructuring of the state's water industry was fully completed.

"We almost completed the restructuring of Selangor water industry...that means that the state's water asset of over RM14bil is now returned to the state government and will be handed over to the people of Selangor.

"This is the challenge for the new mentri besar. If we don't do this, the people will punish us because we have promised them this in the general election," he said.

Khalid called on the state government's employees to continue doing their best for the people regardless of the state's current political situation.

"Let the politicians fight...let them continue with their antics.

"Let's continue doing what we think is right...when we feel that we are contributing to something, we will do it responsibly," he said.

He thanked the staff for helping him administer the state throughout his tenure since March 2008.
