Widespread call for repeal of Sedition Act

KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyers, activists and students who turned up at the  #MansuhAktaHasutan (Abolish the Sedition Act) forum and campaign launch at the Bar Council here Thursday unanimously opined that the 66-year old Act had to be repealed as it stifled freedom of speech.

"The Sedition Act is phrased so widely that anything can be seditious. No person can know beforehand if they are committing a crime under the Act by uttering something," said Lawyers for Liberty co-founder N. Surendran.
