SEPANG: One hundred and fifteen victims of the MH17 tragedy, including 11 Malaysians, remain unaccounted for, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said their remains could be among 587 body parts which have yet to be identified in Amsterdam or still at the crash site.
“That is why we need to return to the location in eastern Ukraine to look for more bodies and to recover the wreckage,” he said.
He added that the preliminary report on MH17 was ready but would be issued by Dutch investigators leading the probe.
“We don’t know when the report will be released but we will ensure it’s done quickly so that it can be made public,” said Liow.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, meanwhile, said the Government wanted investigators to determine who or which parties were responsible for shooting down MH17.
“We need to do all we can to facilitate criminal investigations into the tragedy,” he said yesterday.
“It will be a miracle if we are successful because of the ongoing geopolitical conflict but we have done the impossible before,” he said after a ceremony to honour nine more MH17 victims whose remains arrived from Amsterdam.
A MAS commercial aircraft carrying the remains of seven Malaysians and two Dutch victims arrived here at about 8.30am.
The nine are Wan Amran Wan Hussin, Subashni J. Retnam, Eugene Choo Jin Leong, Sanjid Singh Sadhu, Muhamad Firdaus Abdul Rahim, Loh Yan Hwa, Fan Shun Po, Paul Goes and Kaela Maya Jay Goes.
A drizzle did not derail the ceremony to honour the victims who were then taken to their respective final resting places.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad along with their wives Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali were present at the Bunga Raya complex.
