National pride: Lisa Surihani taking part in The Star Online’s instagram Merdeka campaign outside Panggung Bandaraya DBKL.
PETALING JAYA: Every year, Lisa Surihani never fails to catch the Merdeka Parade.
When she is not there waving the Jalur Gemilang, the actress will be at home watching the live telecast together with her family.
To the 28-year-old media darling, nurturing the spirit of patriotism is necessary in building a harmonious and unified nation.
“The sense of patriotism we have is very different from that of our grandfathers and fathers.
“They lived under colonisation and because of that, the meaning of Merdeka is not the same,” she said, adding that this was why all Malaysians have the collective responsibility to instil love for the country.
In conjunction with the 57th independence day, Lisa Surihani and The Star Online invites readers to take pictures of themselves in front of any historic or iconic building in Malaysia via Instagram, using the black and white Inkwell filter.
Until Aug 31, readers are welcome to take their best shots to convey their love and respect for Malaysia.
In the caption of the picture, the readers can tell what Merdeka means to them and put in #IAmMalaysia as their hashtag.
Readers are required to include their personal details such as name, age and hometown, as their pictures will be used for The Star Online’s Storify coverage on Aug 31.
