SHAH ALAM: Newly-elected PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the factions in the wing had resolved their misunderstandings and agreed to throw their support behind him.
He said the new PKR Youth leadership held clear-the-air talks on Saturday night and reached a consensus to put their differences aside and move forward to strengthen the party.
This was after several committee members staged a walkout during Nik Nazmi's maiden speech at the party's youth congress on Friday.
There was dissatisfaction with the results of the party election where Nik Nazmi narrowly defeated Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shaari for the chief's post.
"Winning and losing is part and parcel of contesting. Now we have decided to work together and prove to the central leadership that the party is not short of capable youth leaders," Nik Nazmi told reporters at the party's national congress here.
He admitted that there were still grouses among some members with the election process, but these would be taken up via the official channels with the party's election committee.
"My committee members and I will now focus on preparations for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election in Kelantan.
"It is our hope that the party leaders will consider fielding a young PKR candidate for the seat, as we believe Barisan Nasional will do the same," he added.
PKR deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin said the by-election would be a test for the youth wing to portray a united front.
