HOME for a single mother and her two daughters in Malacca over the past two weeks has been their trustworthy Perodua Kancil after they were forced out of their house because she could no longer afford the rent, reported Harian Metro.
Siti Hajar Ismail said she had no choice but to live in her car after she was laid off from her job in a restaurant.
Instead of being a burden to her family and friends, the 35-year-old decided that she would rather be homeless with her daughters, aged eight and six.
“I cannot raise enough money for the down payment to rent a house. Actually, I cannot even afford rent.
“Whatever money I have is just enough to pay for my children’s meals,” said Siti Hajar, who divorced her husband in June.
To ensure their safety, Siti Hajar said she would park her car in front of her friend’s house in Batu Berendam before they went to sleep.
Siti Hajar said her eldest daughter had not been going to school since “they moved into the Kancil” and hoped for assistance so that they could start afresh.
> The daily also reported that four-year-old Muhammad Aqil Arfan Adnan, who died after being left inside his father’s car for hours, had “told” his dead grandfather that they would be together soon.
His mother Aishah Abu said she had taken the boy to visit her father’s grave on the first day of Syawal.
“While we were there, he said ‘Tok Wan (grandfather), I will come again’,” said Aishah.
She said Aqil, who was close to her father Abu Enoi, had constantly asked about him since he died last December.
The boy was found dead in his father’s car at 4pm on Wednesday at the parking lot of SMK Kuala Nerang after being left in the vehicle for over eight hours.
Aishah had described Aqil – the youngest of four siblings – as a cheerful and loving child, who would be celebrating his fifth birthday on Oct 10.
