KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah admitted in a High Court here she made a mistake in a media statement that resulted in a defamation suit against her by former minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
She admitted this in a statement of apology before Justice Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamed yesterday.
Nurul Izzah read out the statement to meet the terms of settling the libel suit filed against her on July 17 last year by Raja Nong Chik, a former federal territories and urban wellbeing minister.
In the suit that was related to a land sale in Bukit Kiara, he also named two other defendants – online news publisher Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd and its reporter Lu Wei Hoong.
Raja Nong Chik’s counsel, M. Reza Hassan, told the judge that action against Lu would be withdrawn as Mkini would be publishing Nurul Izzah’s statement on its website within seven days.
Raja Nong Chik claimed Nurul Izzah, a PKR vice-president, had caused the publication of libellous and false statements made against him at a press conference on May 4 last year.
Nurul Izzah said she found there was a mistake in her media statement given on May 4 last year, a day before the 13th general election.
She said she found that her statement had affected the good name and reputation of Raja Nong Chik as well as his family’s.
