GEORGE TOWN: A 17-year-old student had cause controversial in his school after ‘liking’ a Facebook page entitled ‘I Love Israel’.
South Seberang Prai OCPD Supt Shafien Mamat said the student had lodged a police report as he was afraid to attend school after receiving several threats from his friends and teachers.
“The students claimed that he accidentally ‘liked’ the page and right after that, he received threats in his Faccebook page from his friends,” he said when contacted Wednesday.
The Form Five student claimed to ‘like’ the said Facebook page on Sunday and turn up at the Bandar Tasek Mutiara police station to lodge a police report on Monday.
Supt Shafien added that four people from the school have been called to give their statements.
“They have already come in to give their statements for the case.
“Now the case is under investigation,” he said.
Shafien said they will be looking into two matters in this case which are, why the student liked the page which cause the controversy and the threats he had received.
He said the case will be investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948 which carries a maximum RM5,000 fine or up to five years’ imprisonment or both.
