KUALA LUMPUR: The father of Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi passed away at the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital in Wangsa Maju here.
Hamidi Abd Fatah, 91, passed away of lung infection at the hospital at about 5pm yesterday, on the same day of Dr Ahmad Zahid’s daughter’s wedding reception.
Out of respect to his father’s demise, the planned reception at the Putra World Trade Centre was turned into a tahlil (prayers) ceremony.
“My daughter’s reception tonight will be replaced with a majlis tahlil arwah (prayers for the deceased).
“My father will be buried at 11am tomorrow (today) at the Sungai Nipah Darat Muslim cemetery in Bagan Datoh ... Al-Fatihah,” he tweeted yesterday.
A host of dignitaries led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak offered their condolences to Dr Ahmad Zahid over his father’s passing.
Others include Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
