KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has congratulated the Malaysian badminton men’s and women’s doubles pairs for winning the fifth and sixth gold medals at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
“Two more gold medals! Well done Malaysia’s men’s and women’s doubles shuttlers! #Glasgow2014,” he tweeted.
The fifth gold medal for the country came through the women’s doubles pair Vivian Khoo-Woon Khe Wei, who defeated Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa from India 21-17, 23-21.
The national men’s doubles pair Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem bagged the sixth gold medal for Malaysia by defeating Singapore pair Danny Chrisnanta-Chayut Triyachart 21-12, 12-21, 21-15.
The Malaysian contingent ended its campaign in Glasgow in 12th place with six gold, seven silver and six bronze medals. — Bernama
