PETALING JAYA: PKR and DAP have urged coalition partners PAS to take action over a leaked WhatsApp conversation where a central committee member brought up a possible scenario if the party left Pakatan Rakyat.
In a statement on Tuesday, PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli asked PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang whether the party would take action against its research director centre Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki over his alleged statement.
"What disciplinary action will PAS take on Dr Zuhdi for proposing that the party goes against the agreement they signed with Pakatan Rakyat and against those who voted for PAS/Pakatan?" Rafizi asked.
In the leaked conversation, PAS central committee member Dr Zuhdi brought up the possibility of the party working together with Umno while retaining Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Mentri Besar.
The conversation is alleged to have taken place in a PAS central committee leaders' WhatsApp messaging group.
He also spoke about returning power to Muslims in Selangor.
PAS is currently in limbo as opinion is split among party members over the Selangor MB issue.
Rafizi, who is also Pandan MP, demanded to know how many more from the PAS central committee had racist and anti-democratic views.
Rafizi also said that while a difference in opinion was normal in any organisation, Dr Zuhdi's statement was akin to something that Malay rights groups such as Perkasa and Isma would say.
"The racist and shallow statements by a PAS leader such as Dr Zuhdi has spoiled the perceptions of non-Muslims of the global message of Islam," he said.
DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke urged the PAS central leadership to distance themselves from Dr Zuhdi's opinion and to take appropriate action to restore the confidence of Pakatan supporters for the party.
"This 'analysis' from a PAS central committee leader is not responsible and has elements of betraying the people's trust.
"Any leader that come up with such ideas has to be strongly condemned. I would like to remind Dr Zuhdi that the seats won by PAS in the general election was under the umbrella of Pakatan Rakyat," he said adding that the statement did not reflect the party slogan of "PAS for all".
