PETALING JAYA: A thuggish shopper punched and injured a Nepalese worker in full view of restaurant patrons and auxiliary policemen at a shopping mall here following a misunderstanding between the two.
The worker sustained injuries to his face from the blow and had to be given medical treatment.
A concerned patron from the Tropicana Shopping Mall here claimed that the shopper was hurling profanities at the Nepalese worker and became furious when the worker told him to stop the harassment during the 7pm incident on Tuesday.
“The shopper went to his car parked in front of the mall and took out a T-baton. Upon seeing this, an auxiliary policeman told the Nepalese worker to hide in the mall,” the witness claimed.
The witness said the shopper also challenged the auxiliary policeman to arrest him despite efforts by the latter to calm him down.
“Mall management staff who arrived at the scene brought the aggressive shopper to a restaurant to smooth things out with the Nepalese worker, but the man punched the worker in the face,” the witness said.
Appalled by what happened to the Nepalese worker, the concerned patron urged police to investigate the case and take swift action against the culprit.
