IPOH: An 18-month-old baby boy has died from internal bleeding in his head after suffering an blow more than a week ago.
Perak deputy police chief Supt Ahmad Termizi Abdul Haq said the toddler died at 11.15am Tuesday, after receiving eight days of treatment in the pediatric intensive care unit at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here.
"The baby was referred to HRPB at 5.30pm on July 1 after a nursing home employee took him to a nearby clinic when he had trouble breathing," he said when contacted by Bernama here Tuesday.
The medical officer who examined the baby found was internal bleeding in his head and subsequently lodged a police report.
Police are investigating the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001.
Ahmad Termizi said according to preliminary investigations, the bleeding was a result from the impact when the boy hit his head at the edge of a table.
"We have not ruled out elements of abuse," he said.
He said the toddler's parents had been called to give their statements. - Bernama
