PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) has dismissed as a rumour an instruction for people to renew their MyKad to be eligible for purchase of petrol at subsidised prices.
NRD director-general Datuk Sulaiman Keling said no such directive was issued.
“The false statement asking people to renew their MyKad has been spread of late through SMS, WhatsApp and Facebook,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He advised the public to ignore the rumour, adding that it was being spread by irresponsible individuals.
Sulaiman said the people could obtain the right information by contacting the department at 03-8000 8000 or by surfing the department’s website at www.jpn.gov.my. — Bernama
