KUANTAN: Those calling for the resignation of Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim not only have malicious intent, but are also downright hypocritical, said Pahang PKR information chief Razali Alias.
Razali said that Khalid’s current detractors were the very same people who previously sang praises about what a great job he was doing.
“They were the ones who portrayed Khalid as the best mentri besar Selangor ever had, even better than the Umno ones.
“For six years, we were all told that Khalid was doing his job well.
“Now, all of a sudden, they are turning their backs on Khalid and demanding that he step down.
“The grassroots are confused over why this is happening,” said Razali when contacted yesterday.
According to Razali, everything seemed fine until two to three months ago when the party elections went into full swing.
“I urge these persons not to mix up their aims at the party elections with their goal of toppling the mentri besar.
“Khalid’s image has been greatly tarnished because of their moves against him,” said Razali, who added that the party elections were supposed to be an internal matter.
“However, other Pakatan Rakyat component parties are confused over all the moves associated with the PKR polls, and presented Umno with an advantage.”
Talk about Khalid being replaced as mentri besar gained momentum when PKR tried to engineer what is now known as the “Kajang move”, which originally wanted to catapult PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a Selangor assemblyman by forcing a by-election in Kajang in March this year.
Since then, Khalid has been assailed both within his party as well as from Pakatan component party leaders for his handling of many issues, including water supply and highway toll in the state.
“The group trying to take down Khalid has bad intentions. Please, let the mentri besar do his job while we reflect on our objective, which is to defend the interests of the people,” said Razali.
