PETALING JAYA: West End musical Mamma Mia! is set to make Malaysians sing and dance again as it makes its return to these shores.
With a new cast and production crew, the musical is brought back by popular demand and will be staged at the Plenary Hall in Kuala Lumpur’s Convention Centre from Dec 18 to 21.
The musical, which blends the pop songs of the Swedish group Abba with a lighthearted, feel-good comedy, first played here in 2008.
It tells the story of young Sophie Sheridan who goes in search of her father, whom she has never met, to invite him to her wedding.
Mamma Mia! has been seen by more than 54 million people in 39 productions and in 14 different languages. This year, it celebrates 15 years in London’s West End.
It features Abba’s hits such as Money, Money, Money, Dancing Queen, I Have A Dream, Super Trouper and more.
The musical is organised here by Yvents! and presented by Maybank Malaysia with the support of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Myceb) with Star Publications (M) Bhd as the official media partner.
Maybank executive vice president head (cards marketing), Marlin A. Nordin, said Maybank Malaysia was very excited to be part of the musical journey here.
“It is also our way of rewarding our customers and offering them an opportunity to see this musical on stage here,” said Marlin at the launch of Mamma Mia! in Malaysia at Menara Star here.
Yvents! managing director Yvette Kang said: “In line with our aspiration to bring world-class entertainment to Malaysia every year, Yvents! is once again thrilled to be able to bring in one of the biggest shows in the musical theatre world, for a limited run in December.”
Malaysia is the final stop this year for this international touring production, produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Bjorn Ulvaeus for LittleStar in association with Universal, Stage Entertainment and NGM.
Tickets are priced at RM190, RM290, RM390, RM490 and RM590.
