KOTA KINABALU: A man shot himself with a homemade gun in front of his girlfriend’s house on the day they were supposed to get married.
Lily Sulaiman (pic), 27, was grief-stricken because an aunt of his 17-year-old girlfriend apparently took her from their home in Kota Marudu to Kota Kinabalu to prevent the marriage.
“He was very heartbroken,” Kota Marudu district police chief Supt Mohd Isa Yusuf said yesterday.
The tragedy took place at about 11.30pm on June 9 in Kampung Patiu. No foul play was suspected.
Supt Mohd Isa said Lily, who was unemployed, was seen as unsuitable for the girl as she was still too young.
Lily and the teenager had been dating for about three years.
Lily only found out that the girl had been taken away when he arrived at her house.
