KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized some RM8mil worth of drugs and crippled a drug syndicate after arresting two of the gang’s ringleaders.
The seizures and arrests were made in two separate raids.
In the first, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigations director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the two ringleaders, aged 29 and 34, were arrested near a fast food restaurant at Jalan Labu, Seremban, about 1.50am last Saturday.
Comm Noor Rashid said police found 50,000 Eramin 5 pills, 100 Ecstasy pills and 3g of ketamine in the car boot of the suspects.
Police were then led by the suspects to an apartment in Kampung Cheras Baru, Ampang, here where other drugs were stored by the syndicate.
“Police discovered 392,000 Eramin 5 pills, 1.4kg of ketamine, 88g of syabu powder, 2,325 Ecstasy pills, 38g of powder and 835ml of liquid that were believed to be Ecstasy,” he told a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here yesterday.
“We believe that the apartment unit was used as a store for the drugs but it is also possible that they were processing in the apartment,” he said.
He said police believed that the group had been active in drug distribution for more than three months in Negri Sembilan and the Klang Valley.
Comm Noor Rashid added that eight other suspects, including a woman, who were believed to be “downline members” of the syndicate were arrested by police in early March.
“We believe that there are more ‘downline members’ involved with the syndicate that we have not identified but we will continue to investigate.
“We also believe that there are other ‘bosses’ in the syndicate but the two arrested were our main targets,” he said.
The two have been remanded for a week and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a mandatory death sentence if found guilty.
