PETALING JAYA: Luyang assemblyman Hiew King Cheu, a former DAP man who has applied to join MCA, is a dedicated political leader who brings with him a wealth of experience, said MCA national organising secretary Datuk Yoo Wei How.
“It is unfortunate that the decision by Hiew has been subjected to criticism from DAP leaders and supporters who, suffering from selective amnesia, have opted to forget that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had launched a 916 move in 2008 to persuade Barisan Nasional federal lawmakers to switch allegiances by Sept 16, 2008,” he said.
In a statement, Yoo said such DAP leaders and supporters should instead review practices within Pakatan Rakyat, noting that Hiew did not hop over to MCA from DAP but had turned independent before applying to join MCA.
Hiew quit DAP last September following differences with the state DAP over the choice for the Opposition Leader’s post in the state assembly.
